10 Stellar Songs About Space

10. I'm The Urban Spaceman €” Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbLDI5lNdRQ It's hard to know what this rollicking late 60's song is about exactly. Its unusual instrumentation, and the trippy and ambiguous lyrics make this bizarre song a great example of the psychedelic pop of the era. Nowadays, it's simply fun to listen to this song and try to make some sense out of verses like "I never let my friends down/ I've never made a boob/I'm a glossy magazine, an advert in the tube". The so called Urban Spaceman emerges through the lyrics like some sort of interstellar messianic figure. One that comes with a twist... Paul McCartney was behind this very strange hit as a producer, under the pseudonym of Apollo C. Vermouth. Go figure.
