20 Problems Only People In A Band Will Understand

Why would you want to be doing any other job in the world? Erm...

Gene Simmons earlier this month declared in an Esquire interview that 'rock and roll is finally dead' and U2 are giving their latest album away for free. So is there any room for real rock and roll in the modern day music market anymore? There seems to be less and less modern rock bands getting their break into the mainstream. Is it true that this is the toughest market to break into in the music industry? We're now decades gone since bands like The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and Aerosmith were selling to the masses and either Simmons, vocalist and bass guitarist for Kiss, has a point about the demise of rock and roll or we are just waiting on the next wave of bands to have their upcoming breakthroughs. It all looks like fun to an outsider what with the gigs, the groupies, the different cities, cool venues and a chance to live your dream on the road - why would you want to be doing any other job in the world? However, behind the scenes it's a different story...it's tough out there for band members but they keep on rocking with the hopes that the big break is only round the corner, you know you can make it on your own and are willing the tackle the following tough problems on the way...

20. Performing Your Heart Out For Five Bored-Looking Audience Members

Set up is done, mic-check is done, the doors have been open a good hour and so far only five members of the general public have wandered in to see your epic performance. Still having to give it your all and making sure you stand directly under the lights so you can't see soul-crushing empty dance floor.

19. Promoters Having Absolutely No Concept Of How Much Petrol Costs

Driving for three hours to get to a gig only to realise the promoter believes £5 will cover the cost of the petrol money you were offered in return for a performance.

18. There's One Date Set In Stone Where Everyone Has Promised They Are 100% Free To Rehearse And Then Only Half The Band Turns Up

Cant Come Very Busy Cat 3 out of 5 isn't enough when it comes to the most important part of keeping the band together and going - rehearsals. 'Cats stuck in a tree', 'Girlfriend just travelled back from University to see me for this one night' 'Not feeling 100%' whatever the excuse it just never feels good enough to miss important jamming time together.
