7 Good Songs From Bad Metal Albums

2. Hey Cruel World (Marilyn Manson – Born Villain)

To put it bluntly, Born Villain was one of the most boring albums that Marilyn Manson ever produced. It was miserable, slow and came across as a failed attempt at art rock, but you’d never guess that by listening to the opening track.

Hey, Cruel World has a creeping and exciting build before it plunges you into a heavy, head-banging anthem that wouldn’t sound out of place on Antichrist Superstar.

In fact, the track sees Manson’s vocals reach some aggressive heights that had gone unseen on his two previous releases.

In the end, the songs that followed Hey, Cruel World just didn’t live up to the hype it created, leaving you pining for an album worthy of its brilliance.
