7 Good Songs From Bad Metal Albums
3. Alestorm (Alestorm – No Grave But The Sea)
With the 2017 release No Grave But The Sea, Alestorm abandoned their nerdy power metal roots in the pursuit of pandering party songs, presumably in an attempt to corner a wider and more lucrative market.
While there are some truly dreadful offerings in the track listing, including Mexico and the subtlety titled F****ed With An Anchor, there is a saving grace in the form of their own self-titled song Alestorm, which is one of the most enjoyable singles that the group has ever released.
The lyrics describe the four crucial things in a pirate’s life, with a combination of regular and screaming vocals, which is a new and welcome feature for the Scottish pirates.
What sets this song apart from the others on the album is that it doesn’t feel deliberately forced, or like it’s pandering in any way, it’s just entertaining.
