DOOM: Every Album Ranked From Worst To Best
8. DANGERDOOM - The Mouse And The Mask
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxvXksKh13UThe wild flow of "El Chupa Nibre" notwithstanding, the rest of the collaboration between DOOM and Danger Mouse comes off as something so supremely boring. Despite its Adult Swim themes and features from Ghostface Killah AND Talib Kweli, it fails to make any sort of major impression.
What fuels the album's dullness is Danger Mouse's production. Its unthreatening quality does not enhance the lyrical humor nor does it work against it through some sort of ironic musicality. It just exists. The most confusing aspect of the album is that Danger Mouse's previous production team up with DOOM on the Gorillaz song "November Has Come" was one of the most interesting songs from either artist. That excitement is lost on this record.
On an album populated with appearances from various Adult Swim characters, its unexciting instrumentation enhances the annoying quality of the guests from beloved cartoons.
If it was released as some sort of exclusive soundtrack for Adult Swim, its mediocrity might be easier to digest. But as one of DOOM's official studio albums it comes off as frustrating and inconsequential.
