DOOM: Every Album Ranked From Worst To Best
7. Viktor Vaughn - Venomous Villain
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KI-_BXAaR4If you put out five albums over the course of a year, at least one will of them will wind up being a low point. The lull in DOOM's prolific 2003-2004 period is an admittedly unimportant return to the character of Viktor Vaughn.
The production spots on the album were picked through a contest in which underground producers would submit their best beats in the hopes that DOOM would rap over them. Ultimately, DOOM raps very little on the album and the beats were picked for their proximity to the glitchier beats of Vaudeville Villain. This leads to the album being a pale attempt at repeating the power of its predecessor.
Despite a low amount of lyrical punchlines and dark beats, the record still manages to have a couple of highlights. For instance, DOOM and Kool Keith collaborate on the quick "Doper Skiller," in which Kool Keith threatens to defecate on anything and everything belonging to rappers whose boasts do not hold up.
Had DOOM taken the time to hold the album to the quality of this song, it could have been an expansion on the first Viktor Vaughn album. But it ends up feeling like a rushed and hastily culled together collection of decent beats and several interesting lyrics.
