Sons Of Anarchy: 10 Best Forest Rangers Songs

9. Son Of A Preacher Man - Katey Sagal & The Forest Rangers

When I was writing this article I knew that there would have to be a Katey Sagal song featured, she's as important a member of The Forest Rangers as any guest musician. In the end, there was only one song that could be considered for the position, Son of a Preacher Man.

Sagal and The Forest Rangers just make this song seem so effortless, and why shouldn't they. Listening to the song conjures up images of a smoky bar or club with a house band playing and the glamours frontwoman singing to the patrons making them think they had a chance. It doesn't stray too far from the Dusty Springfield version, but The Forest Rangers give the song their trademark spin, replacing the horn section with electric guitars and organs. Then Katey's vocals just compliment the arrangement perfectly.

Featuring way back in Season 1 episode 2, the track plays in the background during shots of first, young and long lasting love, with Jax taking flowers to Wendy, a burning picture of Gemma with John Teller, Opie sitting to breakfast with his young family, and the whole MC and friends sitting down to a hearty feast like one big happy family. If only, oh if only. It's a great example of the perfect song at the perfect moment, something that would go on to become an incredibly well-executed trend throughout the 7 season run.
