8. Gangnam Style
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bZkp7q19f0 Yes, it's overplayed, excessive, and by this point kind of annoying, but there's no denying the absurd cultural relevance and pervasive power of Psy's super-catchy K-Pop parody "Gangnam Style", which distinguished itself late last year as the first YouTube video to surpass 1 billion views, and it's already pulsing its way well beyond that, perhaps to the seemingly insurmountable 2 billion milestone. So pervasive has it been, in fact, that not only has it endured countless remixes and mash-ups, but political figures have even noted its relevance, as well as its apparent properties for...bringing about peace. The ridiculous lasso dance number is currently being (badly) replicated in dance halls the world over, but let us never forget the relatively humble origins it spawned from, and the amusing controversy that followed once it became clear that perhaps Psy wasn't as nice as he was cracked up to be, given his purportedly violently anti-American past. Perhaps funnier six months ago than it is now, it's nevertheless an impressive monument to how far a few chuckles can take you.
