10 Things You Didn't Know About Idris Elba

5. He's Been Nominated For A Whole Mass Of Awards

Despite everything, Idris Elba still insists that he's an underdog €“ and he's okay with that. €œMy publicist says a lot of the time people don't get it. They're like, 'Ee-dris Elba?' And she's like, 'The guy from The Wire,'€ he said in interviews. €œI don't see myself as famous. I'm more, 'What's his name again?' And I love that.€ People are starting to come around, though. To date he's been nominated for over forty awards for his various performances, on the big and small screens, and he's even managed to win a few too. For the title role in Luther he's earned a 2011 Golden Globe, a BET Award for Best Actor the same year, as well as gongs from the Image Awards, Royal Society Of Television, Black Reel and UK Crime Thriller Awards. At the BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards in 2013, meanwhile, Rob Brydon presented Elba with the Britannia Humanitarian Award, presented previously to Richard Curtis, Don Cheadle and Colin Firth, which honoured all the work the actor has done for the Prince's Trust to help disadvantaged youth the way the charity did when he was young.
