The internet is a rich source of misquotes, from famous utterances attributed to Sylvia Plath, Abraham Lincoln, and a whole bunch of other people who never actually said the things they're best known for. Don't think that it's a modern phenomenon, mind: in fact, people have been getting famous quotes wrong literally for centuries at this point. That probably includes you. Sorry. Luckily, I've rounded up a few of the biggest offenders right here, so you can make sure you never make an ass of yourself in front of your incredibly pedantic friend ever again. 15. "Mrs Robinson, Are You Trying To Seduce Me?"
The actual quote: "Mrs Robinson, you're trying to seduce me. Aren't you?" As with a lot of these misquotes, the famous lines have been shortened a little to make them a little easier to remember and, well, quote. In The Graduate, people talk how people talk, not in perfectly-constructed little iconic phrases. When we remember them, we remember them as being a little more snappy and to-the-point.
