15 Famous Quotes You Always Get Wrong

14. "Alas, Poor Yorick! I Knew Him Well"

The actual quote: "Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio." See how one word can change things? Of course Arnie's depiction was even more off-book. I'm pretty sure there's no stage direction where Hamlet cobs the skull at Horatio in the Shakespeare play.

13. "Run, You Fools!"

The actual quote: "Fly, you fools!" I swear, whenever I try to remember this climactic scene from The Fellowship of the Ring, I hear it as "Run, you fools!" In fact in the original theatrical release Gandalf did say "run", but in every DVD release he has been dubbed to say "fly" to more accurately reflect the dialogue from the original book. So we're still half-right.

12. "Me Tarzan, You Jane"

The actual quote: "Jane. Tarzan. Jane. Tarzan..." Another somewhat apocryphal one, there is an instance in the old RKO black and white Tarzan movies where the vine-swinger makes a primitive introductions with his eventual love interest. Just not in the way that people like to quote.

11. "Not A Lot Of People Know That"

The actual quote: He never said it! Not a lot of people know this, but Michael Caine has never said "not a lot of people know that", despite it being a cornerstone of bad Michael Caine impressions for time in memoriam. It seems like the sort of cheeky wink-and-smile quip he'd make in Alfie or The Italian Job, but the quote actually has its roots in an impression Peter Sellers did of the actor.
