15 Reasons You Wish You Were From Yorkshire

It's known as 'God's own country' for a reason.

You might have assumed upon reading that title that the author actually meant to write 'New York'. It was no mistake. Laugh though you may, Britain's best kept secret is that deep down, no matter how much people might deny it in public, everybody wishes they were from Yorkshire. It might as well be scientific fact. To be fair, it's no wonder: the county's fascinating history, immense beauty, down to earth people and penchant for political trouble-causing makes it not only the most raw and exciting place in Britain, but one that time and again defies the stereotypes and negative expectations to make visitors fall in love with its charms. As the old saying goes, when you leave Yorkshire you leave a piece of yourself behind. Now I know what you're thinking: your wallet, your wheel trims, your brand new iPhone... But no, we're talking about your heart and soul, because Yorkshire has everything that rival counties have only on a bigger and better scale, and wraps it all up in the kind of warm welcome that makes everyone who visits the place wish they were a native.

15. We're The Biggest County By Far

People often assume that Yorkshire is a small collection of villages whose collective population amounts to around fifty humans and a hundred sheep, yet Yorkshire is by far the biggest county in Britain. So big, in fact, that it was recently divided into three districts: west, north and east. Even then, North Yorkshire alone dwarfs most other counties. It has a larger population than the whole of Scotland and twice the GDP of Wales. What this means is that, come war or revolution, Yorkshire has the manpower and the money to prevail against invading hordes. In other words, we're safe as houses.
