6 Reasons Why Intervention In Syria Has Not Happened

1. Peace Envoy?
In response to the escalating unrest in Syria, Kofi Annan was appointed as the UN-Arab League envoy to Syria on the 23rd February 2012. His mission, to curb the violence. His results, nil. This fruitless mission appeared to have a positive start when Kofi Annan met with, now disgraced, Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad. The 6 point peace plan was accepted towards the end of March and a proud Mr Annan presented these results back to the UN. However, this was simply a lie. The Syrian government appeased the UN with their words but strengthened their attacks. President Al-Assad has always refused to accept the responsibility of any massacre, any attack made against resisting forces and/or civilians. These are all attacks that have almost certainly been carried out by Al-Assad loyalists but Syrias president has been attributing these disgusting attacks to the works of terrorists. Few believe his words. The recent fleeing of government officials and first hand evidence of government forces attacking does little to support Al-Assads claims. Nevertheless, how could Kofi Annans mission possibly have worked when the very man you are asking to cease has not admitted ever starting?
