11 Breathtakingly Beautiful Places That Will Kill You Horribly

Just because it's beautiful doesn't mean it's not deadly.

The world is a beautiful place, but it's one of Mother Nature's cruelest jokes that some of the most beautiful parts are also the most deadly.

Everybody knows that you should never lick the most colourful frogs, and the same goes from some of the world's most stunning scenery. This is a "look (from a great distance) but don't touch" kinda deal unless you fancy dying a horribly painful, somewhat undignified, often disfiguring, death.

Luckily for us, there are some intrepid photographers out there who are will to travel to these places and put them on the internet, so that the rest of us can enjoy them without risking death by drowning, asphyxiation, poisoning, exposure and lord knows what else.

11. Ijen Crater - Indonesia

Kawah Ijen Crater Lake, is a vibrantly blue lake located at the top of the volcano. It's a beautiful sight and people come from all over the world to see it.

It's also chock full of hydrochloric and sulfuric acid, with a PH of near-enough zero (in case you missed out on high school chemistry, that's pretty darn acidic). It's thought that the volcano on which the lake is located emits hydrogen chloride gas which reacts with the water, creating the turquoise death juice.

The lake itself is beautiful, but it's when the sun goes down that the true show begins.

Sulphuric gas that escapes from the volcano is ignited at the surface and burns with a bright blue flame, hitting about 600°С, making it appear as though the volcano is spewing blue lava.

The sulfur that accumulates around the lake is mined by hand and carried away in baskets. However, many of the miners suffer numerous respiratory diseases as a result of their work.

Cause of death: Respiratory disease.
