A Beginner's Guide To: Colonising Mars

How to turn the Red Planet into a home from home in 11 easy steps.

Sometimes it can seem as though the golden age of space travel is behind us. Granted, we haven't stood anyone on the Moon for a while, but that doesn't mean we aren't still out there. 2015 was a big year for space, with running water found on Mars, the super blood moon and Voyager beaming back some truly breathtaking images of everybody's favourite dwarf planet, Pluto. We're not done yet either, as everyone fixes their sights a little more firmly on Mars, lots of teasers, speculations and announcements continue to trickle out about a potential Mars mission, leading us to ask, could Mars be this generation's Moon landings? One day we could even end up living on Mars. This has sounded like science fiction for a long time, but now it is beginning to edge its way into science fact. So, how does one go about colonising another planet?
