Whenever a Transfer Window creaks open, letting in all the cold air to freshen up what has been a fairly gossip-less past few months, writers such as myself have a field day by guessing and speculating who might be going where and for how much.
It’s all part and parcel of the Premier League, or any other major league in Europe for that matter. The transfer window allows a side to bring in some much needed new recruits in a desperate bid to stave off relegation, or for some, to bring in a fancy new striker to help them seal the Premier League crown.
And it also gives us a chance to spin a few yarns, too.
As with most transfer windows, there have been some truly wild and over-zealous claims being bandied around throughout the press so far this month, claims that are so far wide of the mark that it is almost embarrassing to publish them.
But we’re still going to. Here, you will be able to find a compilation of some of the most recent transfer speculation that should never have seen the light of day.
Over the next few days we will examine the wildest transfer claims from each of the top Premier League sides that definitely will not happen, starting with European Champions Chelsea.
And before you ask, no, Lionel Messi probably isn’t joining the Blues from Barcelona with Fernando Torres going the opposite way.
