As one of English football€™s biggest clubs, Liverpool aren€™t often too far away from the backpages of newspapers and tabloids. From their dominance of the game through the 1970€™s and 80€™s to their re-mergence in the 21st century, the Reds have made headlines for their success and attacking style of play. Last season for example the club won a host of new admirers for their swashbuckling brand of football under Brendan Rodgers with a young, vibrant and inexpensively-assembled team giving super-rich powerhouses Chelsea and Manchester City a run for their money in the title race, while many fans even adopted them as €œtheir second team€ as the run-in reached its conclusion. But for all the recent positivity surrounding Liverpool there has been negativity too. A certain Luis Suarez has ensured the Merseyside outfit have been associated with more than their fair share of controversies down the years, with the Anfield giants being dogged with biting and racism scandals. There have been historic cases of such instances as well, and it would be unfair to pin the entirety of the club€™s sometimes dubious past on the disgraced Uruguayan. From cocaine celebrations, match fixing allegations and even a golf-club assault, here we take a look at 10 Controversies & Scandals That Rocked Liverpool.
