Carmelo Anthony was drafted 3rd overall by the Denver Nuggets in 2003. Coming off an NCAA National Championship win that same year at Syracuse University, Melo was by far the best player Denver had in a decade. His seven and a half year tenure with the Nuggets was marginally successful: he never averaged less than 21+ points per game, the team never missed the playoffs with him at the helm, and they even earned a trip to the Western Conference Finals in 2009.

However, the small market in Denver didn't mesh with Melo's larger-than-life personality and in 2010, he demanded a trade to the New York Knicks. While the Nuggets initially denied Melo's request, they eventually traded him to the Knicks for a platoon of young players and a maddening number of first round draft picks.

In New York, Melo has been faced with the institutional chaos and legendarily incompetent management native to Madison Square Garden. The team has largely failed to build a winning unit around him and his only successful season in the Big Apple has been a 54 win campaign in 2012-2013. Besides that, he and the Knicks have been mired in everlasting dysfunction.
