Most fighters would tell you that there is nothing more exhilarating than knocking someone out. Unless the fighter is a dedicated Jiu-Jitsu specialist, you'll always hear a fighter get more excited about a knockout than submission. The added bonus to the knockout can be from being a heavy underdog or coming back from taking a significant amount of punishment. Those are the standards for a knockout to be considered as shocking. For it to be considered on a top ten list, the moment needs to be be spectacular. The moment has to be considered at that present time, along with the state of both fighters' careers. You can be a top three fighter in a particular division facing someone that may not be even in the top ten by most pundits. You lose focus for a moment and can be knocked out in less than a minute. The landscape changes and that will always be remembered as a memorable shocking moment. Even if that knockout happened a few years ago and the fighter who was knocked out has declined dramatically, it still remains to be a shocking moment. This list only focuses on the UFC's most shocking knockouts. Even though Kevin Randleman knocking out Mirko Cro Cop at Pride Elimination 2004 would instantly be on any top ten MMA list for shocking knockouts, this only pertains to the UFC.
