The flops, the misfires, and the just plain bizarre!

In football today, the importance and significance of money is more crucial than it ever has been. Due to this increased significance, spending wisely has become pivotal to the success of a football club. Over the years, West Ham's dealings in the transfer market have often produced gems. Players such as Paulo Di Canio and John Hartson will forever be hailed as West Ham legends. Our transfer flops and failures, however, have also stuck in the mind of every Hammers fan sometimes just as much as our heroes. Despite the multitude of players that West Ham have been linked to in the past, we have continued to throw our money into the strangest of signings. Throughout his managerial career at West Ham, Harry Redknapp made a name for himself in this department, signing a handful of very questionable players. Since his departure, this habit of Redknapp's seemed to catch on, spawning a number of dubious decisions from the managers that proceeded him. The logic behind these players' signings and the nature of their West Ham careers is mostly unnecessary, misjudged and in some cases just plain bizarre. These are the players that have cemented themselves in West Ham's transfer history for the strangest reasons. Let's hope we learn our lesson from them!
