It’s no secret that The Gunners have experienced some considerable changes these last few years. In fact, the drama never seems to end for the club. Eight years without a trophy have weighed heavily on the players and fans alike. More and more, people are speaking out about what Arsenal used to be instead of what they are today. As a fan, it’s tough to watch helplessly as clubs like Manchester United and City take glory, leaving Arsenal striving for a top 4 finish.

Arsenal is a club with a rich, successful history. It’s been in the top tier of English football longer than any other club, and it has served as a home for many brilliant players and managers in that time. Arsenal deserves more than a constant fight to remain relevant in the Premier League. The quality of players, the pace, and the goal scoring ability are all there. In the end, it comes down to which players will step up and lead the team to success as we move into next season.

Here are my picks, in no particular order…

5. Theo Walcott

If this season has shown us anything, it’s that Theo Walcott is a force to be reckoned with. He’s not always been consistent, but this has been his best season to date and his versatility and speed are to be admired. At 24, he’s still got a long career ahead of him and he will no doubt bring some fire and passion the Arsenal side. He has a flair and ability that can push the club further than ever before, whether he plays on the wing or up the middle.

Like most fans, my first impression of Theo was based on his impeccable speed and the fact that he was wearing Henry’s 14. I was immediately impressed and he quickly became one of my favorite Arsenal players, which at some points over the last few years has made me look foolish. Still, I stuck with him and it (eventually) paid off. Because he’s had distinct ups and downs (and because of his drawn out contract negotiations earlier this year), he has suffered some ridicule from fans. Even so, I expect great things from him in the future and I think his best days at Arsenal are ahead.
