Caughtoffside.com are reporting that Arsene Wenger is to make a bid for Czech Republic right-back Theodor Gebre Selassie. The pacey attacking fullback has been one of the stand out performers of the Czech’s Euro campaign so far and would be a brilliant addition to the Arsenal squad for next season.
The 25-year-old has played for the Czech Republic at youth level and broke into the senior set-up last year. He became the first ever black player to represent the Czech Republic and his rapid rise to fame continued with scintillating form at Euro 2012.
Arsene Wenger has reportedly been tracking Gebre Selassie throughout the season but has ultimately been convinced by his displays at Euro 2012, where he has helped the Czech Republic through to face Portugal with solid defensive work and an assist against Greece.
Apparently, Wenger has consulted Czech captain Tomas Rosicky, who recommended Gebre Selassie to him.
As a Czech Arsenal fan, I’m very excited by this news as I’ve watched him before for his club side Slovan Liberec who won the Czech league last season. He’s a reliable defender who also loves to get forward and support the attack. He isn’t yet on the level of Bacary Sagna, but I would say he’s definitely faster and probably has a better cross. At 25, he will keep on improving as well. I could see him as becoming a Koscielny-type player who never gives up and gives his best for the team.
Looking at our current options, I’d say that Gebre Selassie is streets ahead of Carl Jenkinson and Johan Djourou and could slot into the side straight away. The deal is supposed to be in the region of €6.5 million, and I can’t see Slovan Liberec forcing him to stay in the Czech league against his will.
Gunners better hope this deal is really going to go through because with Gebre Selassie, we’d be a big step closer to sorting our defence out; and maybe, just maybe have enough in the tank to push for silverware next season.

good addition since sagna is strugling with injuries
Wenger is at it again, this player has had 2 good games (if that)enough of all the rumours sick of it,I hope wenger buys berkamp, parlour,Henry and Adams :)
The guys is a great player, iv seen him play in the euros, his the man for wenger
I don’t rate this guy. He was sleeping at let Ronaldo run right past him to net the winning goal? If you can’t defend against the best, you can’t win against the best.
To be fair though, he did keep him shackled for most of the game, and you’re talking about Ronaldo! I doubt Sagna would have done better to be fair, I think Gebre Selassie had a great game.
No chance, not after seeing him against Portugal – his decision making was shocking from simple passing to crossing – IMO would not be good enough in the PL. Give Jenkinson a go or put Coquelin at right back until Sagna returns.
i think its about time we got some fullbacks he may not be the finished artical yet but when Jenkinson turned up he was shocking and worked hard and got better for 6.5m euros i’d like to see what he’s got
but i do think we should try Coquelin a go at right back as he won’t get a sniff in the middle if M’Villa comes in
This is a report from CaughtOffside. They make up a lot of bull. This ain’t gonna happen.
Guys I think you are being too quick to judge. Gebre Selassie just played a physically draining match, his fourth in two weeks, against arguably the second best player on the planet with considerably lower quality teammates than he would play with at Arsenal. At Arsenal he will have the luxury of rotation, face players of a slighltly lower quality than Cristiano Ronaldo AND play alongside Vermaelen, Koscielny and co.
To summarise, I think Selassie would be a really really great addition to the Arsenal squad and people really shouldn’t write the man off following one performance.
since we get rosicky dia,let 4lo him 2 complete d deal.Dont judge bcuz of a match,is vry difficut 2 mark ronaldo. He did a vry gud job.ride on wenger
Why do all Africans spell like 3 year old retards
I hope this story has just been fabricated from nothing because I don’t rate this guy at all from what I have seen he may be quick but thats about it. He has a poor positional sense, a poor touch and very little end product for an attacking full back/ wing back. I think it would be a shame for Arsenal to drop 6.5 million on this guy. Funds that could be used to buy other more complete players or bolster the clubs player wage budget. If Wenger sees something in him I don’t then who am I to question his judgement but surely he could be obtain for less than 6.5 million I know he was part of the Czech league winning team, a country with a strong football tradition in a part of Europe that produces some of the worlds best players, but that and his performances in the euros does not merit the price tag mentioned above.
he is a good player both in attacking and defending and i think he is a better in going forward compered to our wing backs
The guy is very good and athletic enough to cope with Arsenal style of game. He might still be a raw talent at 25, but Wenger can easily transform him to a world talent just like Sagna at that position. Good English gives the reader a better understanding of the comment made rather than shortcut to english that does not exist. (A Nigerian
Guys please just tone it down with the swearing and aggro, we need to be recpectful to each other. It’s okay to have different opinions, but don’t offend others, thanks.
Nice move Wenger should woo him at all cost coz Djouroh is not a reliable guy.
Bitch why all this fuss dat guy is dawm good beta than sagna
Nobody is better than Sagna, twiddle your thumbs and touch your toes sonny.
I see right know, wenger is hungry
Nobody is better than Sagna, twiddle your thumbs and touch your toes sonny!
just go wenger.he is player with strong desier to win and good talent.
I hope it isn’t true. I’d much rather a solid right back than someone who spends the best part of the match in front of the halfway line. If you want someone athletic and runs up the wing, what’s wrong with Debuchy? I rate him better defensively than Gebre Selassie. What has happened to Arsenal’s solid scouting base? We seem to be linked with everyone and his dog now and then sign the worst of them. Glad to see Podolski and Giroud sign, but we need solid defenders, that was where we lost half our matches last season.
If wenger willbe buy a talent player i’m sure arsenal is succeed!
