Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay was linked with a move to Arsenal before Euro 2012, however Holland’s early exit from the competition and Afellay’s apparent reluctance to leave the Nou Camp saw those rumours fizzle out. A combination of events since then however has rendered the transfer likely again and it seems as if Arsenal have a serious chance of landing the player once again.
The news emerging from the Barcelona camp is that Afellay is not part of Tito Vilanova’s plans for a post-Guardiola Barcelona team and the club is prepared listen to offers in for him the region of £6 million. At the same time, news is emerging that Lille made a £6 million bid for the Dutchman which was accepted by Barcelona, however rejected by Afellay who sees himself at a top European club. This proves that Barcelona are seriously prepared to sell for such a low price, leaving the way open for one of European football’s big boys to swoop for the talented winger if they can persuade the player himself; Inter Milan and Arsenal believed to be interested.
I believe that Afellay is exactly the kind of signing Arsenal could do with at the moment, for various footballing and non-footballing reasons.

A talented, creative midfielder and would be a perfect choice to fill the space left by benayoun. If we can get him for £6million as also suggested here it would be a bargain.
