Ballon d'Or: 5 Players That Would Have Won If Messi And Ronaldo Didn't Exist

5. Franck Ribery - Bayern Munich And France

Although Munich have an incredible squad of amazing players and are always adding to it with more and more talent, Ribery has remained to be the stand out performer and some could argue that third place on Monday may even be an insult to the Frenchman. The 30 year old is still at the peak of his career, but I can't see him getting any better, so such an award would have been a great way to reward such a career, to sit on his mantle piece along with his Bundesliga player of the year, Champions League player of the year, French player of the year and European player of the year trophies, and of course the Champions League he helped his side win in London back in May. Former France star and winner of world player of the year Zinedine Zidane once described Ribery as 'The Jewel of French football' and he wasn't wrong. However, Ribery is probably the unluckiest player on this list and if he doesn't win this award this year, which looks unlikely, he never will.
