Chelsea Transfer News: Wayne Rooney Not For Sale - At Any Price

Guardian. United have made the decision that the 27-year-old will not be sold no matter how much is offered or whatever the risks of keeping an unhappy player at the club, which is final and represents a significant set-back for Chelsea. Blues manager Jose Mourinho thought the signing of the England international was only a matter of time and that, despite failing with two bids of £23 million on 16 July and £25 million on 4 August, he would eventually get his man. The Portuguese boss was banking on the Premier League champion's caving in and selling Rooney due to their perceivably poor relationship with the player, who has made no secret of his unhappiness at Old Trafford in recent times. On the contrary, United's owners, the Glazer family, are determined there will be a show of force this summer and that means automatically rejecting any bids from Chelsea. United believe it would be weak for them to collapse under the pressure of player power no matter what the fallout may be, and their position will not change even if Rooney hands in a transfer request this summer.
