Chelsea Transfer News: Wayne Rooney To Sign For £25 Million?

Daily Star. The Blues yesterday confirmed they had tabled an opening offer for the unsettled England international, who was said this week to have been "angry and confused" by his treatment at United. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho yesterday admitted it was "Wayne Rooney or bust" for the Europa League champions this summer, but denied reports that his first offer was £10 million plus Juan Mata or David Luiz. Mourinho and Chelsea have set a £25 million limit on the 27-year-old forward, and the champions could be prepared to do business if they receive a straight-cash offer for that amount. It is even speculated that Rooney has "agreed in principle" a £220,000-a-week deal at Stamford Bridge, similar to the wages he is currently picking up at Old Trafford. Ominously, United's chief executive Ed Woodward yesterday cut short his stay in Australia for the club's pre-season tour and flew back to England - to oversee Rooney's departure, reports claim. Speaking after his side's 1-0 win over Singha All-Stars - who beat United by the same scoreline in a friendly last weekend - Mourinho said:

"The situation is clear - nothing is a secret any more. "The official bid is about a certain amount of money and doesn't involve players. We want the player. We made the bid and now we have nothing more to say. "Now it is up to Manchester United."
Asked if the club had made bids for any other players, Mourinho said: "No, and we won't." Pressed further on whether it is now "Rooney or bust" for the Blues this summer, the Portuguese boss answered: "Yes."
