Facundo Ferreyra Will Leave Newcastle Without Playing A Game

The worst 'signing' in the club's history?

It won't be a surprise for you to hear that Facundo Ferreyra will be leaving Newcastle United at the end of the season having failed to make a single appearance for the first team. The striker, who arrived with a pretty substantial reputation, has spent the whole season in the club's under 21s side. The Shields Gazette understands that the 24-year-old's appearance for the 21s away at West Brom in their last fixture of the season will be his last in the black and white shirt. The youngsters didn't give Facundo the sending off he was hoping for as they went down 3-2 in what has to be considered a thriller. However, the forward gave the travelling Geordies in attendance (estimated at around zero) something to remember him by, by providing an assist.
A lot was made of the signing as The Magpies appeared to have pulled off one hell of a coup so late in the summer transfer window. However, as has been proven pretty clearly over the last nine months, the Shakhtar Donetsk man isn't good enough. Newcastle have been desperately short at times up top this season which should have provided the perfect opportunity for the Argentine to prove his worth. However, both Alan Pardew and John Carver preferred to call on the likes of Adam Armstrong while fellow new arrival Emmanuel Riviere has failed to score at all in the league this season. It appears that the rumours suggesting that club captain Fabricio Coloccini brokered the signing just to get his mate out of a war-torn Ukraine were right. This all makes the £6 million fee that was agreed between the clubs should the deal had been a success all the more laughable.
