The former Newcastle midfielder is a fan.

Former Newcastle and Marseille midfielder, Joey Barton has said that Newcastle's decision to sign Florian Thauvin as a replacement for Remy Cabella was "a fantastic bit of business", according the the Mag.

Barton hailed Newcastle's latest signing and believes that the Frenchman is an exceptional talent.

The Burnley midfielder who spent a season on loan at Marseille during the 2012/13 season didn't play with Thauvin as he was signed after Barton had left the club in the summer.

Talking to BT Sport, the midfielder said that St James' Park would be a 'great place to show his talent.

Barton said:

€œI think it is a fantastic bit of business (for Newcastle) to get Remy Cabella out and get Florian Thauvin in.

€œThauvin is the next big thing in French football.€

A great place to show his talent:

€œIt didn€™t quite materialise for him at Marseille, and the fans turned on him a little bit, because I don€™t think he lived up to what they thought he could be.

€œThis (Newcastle) is a great place for him to show his talent -I think he€™s an exceptional young player.€

Thauvin scored a goal inside 180 seconds of his home debut and provided three assists as Newcastle beat Northampton 4-1 in the Capital One Cup second round. The midfielder looked very promising against Arsenal last weekend despite being player out of position.
