I recently read an insightful article into Manchester City’s 5 best foreign players and begun to think what Liverpool’s might be. Since 1992, Liverpool have had 7 different managers, and although they haven’t proved to be as successful as the legendary Bob Paisley and Bill Shankly, they have all had highlights and many of them have been down to their excellent foreign players.
In this article we’ll look at Liverpool Football Club’s 15 greatest ever foreign players signed during the 21 years of Barclays Premier League football. From Hyypiä to Salif Diao and Djibril Cissé to Luis Suárez, there have been many hits and even more misses. But we’re here to celebrate the best so without further chatter, let’s begin…
Honourable mentions signed pre-BPL: Bruce Grobbelaar, and Jan Molby were not signed during the Premier League era so I’ve not included them on this list. They were signed during the old Divison One so I’ve made them ineligible. However, if they had been eligible, they’d have been in this list without a shadow of a doubt. Top drawer players and Red legends.

i toivo undergraduate at the universiy of namibia,in my life football is simply the best..but non of the teams makes me excited rather than liverpool vs manchester united..this is usually a clush of the continent in europe.i love liverpool style than ever..the reds have excting style in the field but usually fail to score goal…suares and sturidge need plenty time together…once a liverpool play than i cant go to the ever cool brai at the beach..i am planning to spend several time in liverpool in the tym ahead once i graduated…. liverpool football speaks louder than africas vuvuzela..
i can’t believe Steve Finnan was left out… an incredibly underrated player Liverpool.. one of the most consistent players they have had
As you can see by my mistake in the first paragraph this article was originally a top 15 and included players such as Steve Finnan at 14 and Gary McAllister at 8 BUT the editor said Irish and Scottish players wouldn’t count as foreign players so I had to edit them out. I agree Finnan was a beast. I’m just as annoyed as you at his removal.
