Liverpool Transfer News: Newcastle Is Andy Carroll's Preferred Choice

Andy Carroll wants to return home and join Newcastle United next season but is worried about the reaction he will receive from the fans he abandoned 18 months ago.

reportedly lodged a "loan with a view to a permanent transfer" offer for their former number nine that was immediately rejected by the Merseyside club who claimed the bid was "not close to their requirements" - likely meaning they preferred to sell their striker outright before the end of this summer's transfer window. It is expected that Newcastle will come back in with a second offer for Carroll after being priced out of a move for their number 1 summer target, FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong and that all their attention has now turned on a move for Carroll given his surprising availability. Sky sources claim Carroll's preferred destination is a move back to his old club he left back 18 months ago in a record-breaking £35 million move from Newcastle United that made him the most expensive British player in football history and part of the 8th biggest transfer in the history of football. However standing in the way of that could be Newcastle's thrifty transfer policy. The Daily Mail reports that they would only be willing to offer as much as £13 million for Carroll, which is likely short of Liverpool's valuation considering it is only a third of what they paid for the Anfield striker 18 months ago. There is also the problem of Carroll's wages, believed to be at least around the £90,000 figure, significantly more than Newcastle would be willing to pay. As for Carroll's concern over the reaction he would get from the Geordie faithful, as a Newcastle United fan I believe the majority would welcome him back in open arms.
