Liverpool have finally made their move to sign Fulham’s want-away attacker Clint Dempsey, but his current club have rebuffed the first offer, as Sky Sports have reported that they understands a bid from Liverpool for Dempsey has been turned down amid interest from several clubs.
The Reds aren’t the only team to have been linked with the American today. Earlier in the day, Aston Villa had made a concrete move for the player, having their bid accepted, but they subsequently withdrew their interest when the player made it clear he was not interested in joining them, and had his eyes set firmly on a move elsewhere. Sunderland too have also been credited with an interest in the 29-year-old as well as Tottenham, who have emerged as front-runners for the player according to Sky Sports.
Liverpool have been linked with the player all summer, and Sky Sports confirm that their interest is long-standing – and with Andy Carroll leaving for a season long loan at West Ham, they are said to have been interested in bringing Dempsey in to offer more attacking options.
Sky are also reporting that Liverpool actually offered both Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson as possible make-weights in the deal which was understood to have been lower than Aston Villa’s earlier offer. But the club now seem resolved that no more business will be done, as BBC Sport have published a quote from a “club source” stating the following:
“It looks extremely likely that there will be no ins at Anfield tonight.”

lets be right Brenden is doing good selling carrol charlie adams , but the yanks are just looking for profits , as you can see and hear ,we could of got Dempsey for 6 million and lost out to spurs , Where is this great club going? When you get a rid of a player who cost 35 million and send him out on a loan deal to west Ham , and still cant even afford a foreward onloan for a season The club has been mugged from the directors MR MOORE|||| Where has all the money gone from winning all them EUROPEAN CUPS! AND LEAGE CHAMPIONSHIPS. Have you all pocketed it and done a runner!!! 31st AUGUST not one player in , but out charlie adam Jay spearing and quite a few reserves gone on loan to some good clubs to cut costs , So what hope has Brenden got? Please stay behind this great guy , Just blame the Greedy YANKS!!!! WHO ARE JUST GOING TO LINE THERE OWN POCKETS!!!!
If borini (lol, my spell check is trying to correct it to ‘boring’… I hope that isn’t the case) gets injured we are in serious trouble. Crazily dangerous gamble but like the fact Rodgers is clearly patient…
Totally agree with Steve, but would add that we’ve little chance of getting 0-0 results with defence screwing up like the did last weekend.
Wonder how long Suarez will stay before he wants out. And Reina. And Gerrard. Dear god, a top 10 finish this season is about as much as we can hope for. Rodgers needs to be given a few years to turn things around, but I reckon he’ll be gone by Christmas.
Amen Stevie B, Liverpool had great opportunities to pick up Dempsy or other scorers at a reasonable price- Pool swirling down the drain now– hasn’t their owners been watching– need to score goals to win–all the transfers out and no goal scorers in –need to find a new team – maybe QPR who will finish above Liverpool this season………………………
average manager here in Liverpool… really miss rafa era, Liverpool the big four team. maybe now Liverpool will compete to avoid relegation as their manager mentality…..
Better transfer out the American owners. The club do not even have 6 million to buy a decent striker. Sounds to me the club is going to be 2nd division material.
ur right the club must invest some if u need to achieve some quality standards lfc sold maxi, belamy, aquilani etx then they loaned the 35 millon man and adam to stoke for 4 or5millon to buy new players.then why they sold them.lfc need to buy players on the january transfer market.or top 4 or top6 is no chance
