Another transfer window has been and gone and with it has come closure to the majority of the transfer rumours and gossip that have been circulating the web over the past 31 days.
We saw David Beckham join Paris Saint-Germain and pledge to donate his salary to a children’s charity; we saw QPR make a club-record signing by capturing former Blackburn defender Christopher Samba from Anzhi and we saw Arsenal add left-back Nacho Monreal from Malaga.
Liverpool, it seems, had no intentions of joining the above clubs in frantically scrambling for new recruits on transfer deadline day, with Brendan Rodgers getting his transfer business wrapped up with days to spare. Daniel Sturridge had already moved from Chelsea, while Philippe Coutinho became the second (and last) winter signing at Anfield after he moved from Italian giants Inter Milan.
In fact, there were more out-goings at the club than arrivals. Joe Cole, Adam Morgan, Nuri Sahin, Danny Wilson and Alexander Doni all left Anfield.
Now that the dust has settled on all this, we have time to reflect on what might have been. Has Brendan Rodgers brought in enough talent to see his side qualify for the Champions League for the first time in three seasons, or has he missed out on a few good deals?
Here, we examine 5 players Rodgers could have signed but didn’t.
