Liverpool Transfers: 5 Reasons Rodgers Must Sign Darren Bent

2. Squad Diversity

At the minute Liverpool have painfully few options in attack: with Andy Carroll out on loan and Fabio Borini supplementing a disappointing season so far with a long-term injury, Rodgers is left with relatively untried talents like Suso to step into the fray as support for Suarez. If the Uruguayan picks up an injury before January - or more specifically before someone else comes in as cover - Liverpool will be left floundering, so they need someone in quickly. Most importantly though, if Liverpool brought Bent in, and recalled Andy Carroll from West Ham as further cover (as they may still given Borini's injury,) Rodgers could boast a forward line with a nice mix of playing styles that could fit together as the perfect jigsaw. With Suarez given free reign to play creatively, and Bent there to knock the ball into the net from a high position, the Reds would have a strong dynamic. And then if Suarez needed a rest, the traditional big man/little man partnership between Carroll and Bent might also prove useful. And diversity in attacking options is exactly what changes games - if Liverpool are struggling to make an impression up front, their options to change at the minute are limited to few and none. But with a player like Bent available, even from the bench, the whole shape of the team could change with one substitution.
