Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United’s veteran manager Sir Alex Ferguson recently ruled out the prospect of signing new players during this transfer window, in spite of his club being linked with a move for a number of players such as defender Leighton Baines and striker Robert Lewandowski.

Writing in his match-day program column for his side’s Premier League game against West Bromich Albion last month, the veteran Scott told fans “not to hold their breath” in hoping that the Red Devils would make a big signing, and claimed that he isn’t looking to do “any serious business in January”.

These claims seem to tally with Ferguson’s usual transfer policy of rarely dipping into the transfer market in January, preferring mostly to get his transfer business done in the summer window instead.

The arrivals of Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic in the winter of 2006 remain the only notable signings Ferguson has made in the January window in the past 6 years, with the possible exception of Anders Lindegaard who signed in January 2011.

But we believe that there are players out there right now who are available and that Ferguson would be mad not to snap them up – especially when you consider said players are very shortly out of contract.

Here then are 5 AVAILABLE transfer targets that Fergie should look at.
