Newcastle Are "Doing Things Differently" To Pardew And Carver, Claims Simpson
The Magpies are hoping their adjustments will pay dividends going forward.
Newcastle United are "doing things differently" to how they've been done at the club in past, Paul Simpson claims. The Magpies assistant head coach has revealed that Steve McClaren and the backroom staff have been making adjustments to the players' training regime in between matches in order to help the squad "taper down". Hinting that the way in which Newcastle train has changed significantly since the days of Alan Pardew and John Carver - without explicitly saying that - Simpson suggested that this new methodology should help the Magpies when they face Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off). 
"So far they've (the players have) been fantastic. They've shown a great attitude - we're changing the format of the week a little bit and trying to get the work in at the early part of it and then try and taper down towards games. "It's probably different to what they've done in the past but we came in after the Southampton game and, with that being a Sunday, the players who had been involved in that had a little bit of a recovery session, the rest did some work. "We've built it up over the course of the week so we can get some really intense sessions ahead of another tough game against Swansea and then they'll get the rest of the week to taper down with the training sessions so that hopefully the fuel tanks are full come the weekend so they're full of running, full of energy, full of enthusiasm as they were at the weekend against Southampton and we can start to build our fitness levels even stronger."Whether or not this new training regime is starting to pay dividends will only become clear once the Magpies take to the field at the Liberty Stadium.
