Alan Pardew has ruled himself out of the running to replace Fabio Capello as England manager.

With his Newcastle United side the second highest positioned club in the Premier League managed by an English boss, there has been little surprise that he has been one of the potential candidates spoken about in the hours since Capello’s shock resignation last night.

Last night Pardew was set as fourth favourite with bookmakers to take on the vacancy, behind English managers Harry Redknapp (odds on favourite, with some bookies stop taking bets right now) and West Brom manager Roy Hodgson, who was seen by many to be a good Capello replacement after the 2010 World Cup.

Pardew, who has only been Newcastle boss for little over a year is right now focused on his job at Tyneside and guiding Newcastle United back into Europe. He said this morning he was ‘flattered’ by being linked with the vacancy but is firmly behind Harry Redknapp taking the job.

New Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill had similar sentiments and is equally not interested in the job, suggesting Harry Redknapp as his favourite for the vacancy.
