Newcastle CONFIRM Departure Of Remy Cabella To Marseille

Cabella leaves NUFC after just a solitary season on Tyneside.

Remy Cabella has completed his move from Newcastle United to Marseille as part of Florian Thauvin's transfer to the Magpies. Cabella's season-long loan is part of the £14 million deal to bring Thauvin to Tyneside, and the French playmaker flew out to Marseille on Tuesday in order to undergo his medical before signing for the Ligue 1 outfit. With an initial one-year loan agreed, Cabella will eventually move permanently for around £6.5 million if "certain conditions are met".

The 25-year-old Corsican signed from Montpellier for a fee somewhere in the region of £12 million last summer to much fanfare having just scored 14 goals in 37 Ligue 1 games for the French side the previous season, yet he has departed St James€™ Park after netting just once in 34 appearances in black and white. Cabella displayed flashes of brilliance during his time at Newcastle - including a magnificent goal at Hull City and promising displays against Chelsea and Arsenal - but all-too fleetingly. The four-cap France international was also accused of being too lightweight, and of failing to make an impact. He endured a difficult first season in the Barclays Premier League, netting just once, and he has returned to France at a loss for Newcastle. It was claimed last summer when the midfielder moved to the North East from Montpellier that Newcastle had paid £12 million for his services - at the time a record outlay of the Mike Ashley era - and they are set to recoup just two-thirds of that.
