Newcastle Midfielder In "Advanced Talks" To Leave Tyneside

Abeid's NUFC career looks to be coming to an end.

Newcastle United midfielder Mehdi Abeid is in "advanced talks" with Fortuna Düsseldorf over a move to the Bundesliga 2 side. France Football claim the Algeria international is close to leaving Tyneside for Germany after being deemed surplus to requirements by new Magpies head coach Steve McClaren. Earlier this summer, Abeid was linked with a permanent return to Greek club Panathinaikos - the side he spent the 2013-14 campaign on loan at - but The Chronicle claim they were unwilling to meet Newcastle's asking price.

Yet France Football report that "ambitious" Fortuna do not have a problem paying the fee the Magpies want for Abeid and that the midfielder looks likely to move to the Bundesliga 2. The midfielder impressed during his time at Panathinaikos, scoring 10 goals in 38 appearances and helping them claim the Greek Cup in 2013-14, and the Greek club want to add greater strength to their squad for this season - but it looks like Abeid will head to Fortuna instead. Last season, Abeid played 16 times for the Magpies - including on 13 occasions in the Premier League - but McClaren's arrival seems to have put an end to his Newcastle United career.
