Newcastle Transfer News: Loic Remy Having Medical - Latest

Team Talk. The France international was omitted from the Hoop's squad to face Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend and is now set to seal a return to the Premier League by joining the Magpies for 12 months. Newcastle are desperate to add firepower to their forward line this season and look set to finally land Remy having missed out on the 26-year-old in the January window. But they had been warned by R's manager Harry Redknapp that they'd have to fork out £2 million to borrow a player that cost £8 million seven months ago. Redknapp said:

"We paid about £8million for him, so if someone wants to loan him for a year, we are entitled to get £2million a year for him."
And the former Totenham manager believes Remy can succeed anywhere he plays.
"Make no mistake, he will get between 15 and 20 goals next season if he goes to a Premier League club. He is a top-class player - a player for any club in the Premier League in my opinion."
Remy scored six goals in 14 Premier League outings for the Hoops last season following his January switch from Marseille, but could not prevent his new side being relegated in May. A deal for the Frenchman would represent a major breakthrough for Newcastle in the summer transfer window having previously been frustrated in their efforts to sign a number of targets. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang opted for a move to Borussia Dortmund while a move for free-agent Douglas, the FC Twente defender, failed to come to fruition.
