Newcastle Transfer News: Magpies Back In For Loic Remy

Could Alan Pardew be about to push another one "over the line"?

Scott Heppell/AP/Press Association ImagesScott Heppell/AP/Press Association ImagesDespite French striker Loic Remy heading back to parent club QPR after an impressive but episodic season on loan at Newcastle United, and strong rumours that he might be on his way to Arsenal, it looks like the Magpies might be back in for him. Alan Pardew has already expressed his intent to bring the enthusiasm back to the St. James' Park crowd, particularly by heading into the new season with a stronger squad than ended the 2013/14 season in such underwhelming fashion, and news that Remy is back on the table as an option will go down with the fans. According to Mark Douglas at the Newcastle Chronicle, the Magpies are currently working on deals for five new signings, having already brought in Ayoze Perez, Jack Colback and Siem De Jong, and are ready to mount a fresh bid for the French striker who returned from France to an uncertain future. Having left Newcastle earlier in the summer, it always seemed likely that Remy would field offers - in his mind, clearly, from Champions League sides - but he didn't play a significant role in France's World Cup campaign, and wasn't able to put himself in the shop window as he might have initially intended, which has lead to renewed confidence that he could be convinced to come back on a permanent deal. Though Newcastle fans will no doubt express doubts, the news is that United have been in talks with Remy's advisers (a familiar sounding situation for all Toon fans, and usually without a good result) and though there has been interest from both Spurs and Arsenal, Newcastle are the only side willing to match his personal demands, as well as QPR's valuation of the player. They also hope to hang their bid for the player on an offer of the central striking role that he craves to force his way into the French first team in time for Euro 2016. The one persistent concern seems to be that Remy might prefer to live in the capital, but negotiations remain ongoing, as ever with Newcastle's intended targets (the Siem De Jong deal apparently took 4 or 5 years to get "over the line.") The Magpies would want to get the deal completed ideally before heading off for their pre-season trip to New Zealand, and want to add Remy Cabella, plus two strikers to revamp the attacking line and add options to youngsters Adam Campbell and Perez, and the injured, and misfiring Papiss Cisse.
