Newcastle United could miss out on signing their number one transfer target Loic Remy, according to the Daily Mail.
The Magpies have identified the Marseille striker as their preferred replacement for Demba Ba, who joined Chelsea earlier this month.
But they could miss out after Italian Giants Inter Milan revealed their interest in the French international.
QPR were also said to be interested in the player, with R’s boss Harry Redknapp making a trip to France last Sunday to watch the player in action. But the striker looks set to reject his overtures, giving Newcastle manager Alan Pardew fresh hope of landing his signature.
However, Inter Milan have emerged as an interested party and have apparently stolen a march over their rivals in their efforts to land the player. Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo recently claimed the player would be allowed to leave if an offer from “a big club” came in, and that choice of phrasing would appear to rule out both Newcastle and QPR who are involved in a relegation scrap.
If the Magpies miss out on Remy to Inter, they could instead turn their attentions to St Etienne’s Emerick Aubameyang or Rennes striker Mevlut Erdinc as Pardew steps up his efforts to replace Demba Ba.
