Newcastle Transfer News: Mathieu Debuchy Deal Agreed

Newcastle close on Mathieu Debuchy?

Sky Sports News. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has been chasing the player for the past 6 months now, and is said to have been interested in the defender since his impressive displays at Euro 2012. Debuchy's arrival on Tyneside could mean the end of Danny Simpson, who is in the final year of his contract, however. Having seen his side leak 11 goals in two games to Manchester United and Arsenal, Pardew will be keen on strengthening his defensive line as he looks to guide the club back up the league table after a disappointing run of form that has seen them get dragged into a relegation dogfight with Wigan. Debuchy will join the Magpies when the transfer window re-opens next week, subject to him passing a medical and agreeing personal terms with the club. Real Madrid and Inter Milan were also keen on the French international, but Debuchy is all set to become just the latest Frenchman to join Newcastle. He follows close friend and current Magpies midfielder Yohan Cabaye to join the club from Lille, which may also have helped seal the deal. Meanwhile, as this story broke... news emerged that Demba Ba is to hold talks with Chelsea about a proposed move in the January transfer window.
