Newcastle Transfers: Arsenal's David Ospina Targeted?

Colombian could be the first summer signing.

Newcastle are planning a surprise move to bring David Ospina to Tyneside in the summer, according to Football Insider. Providing we keep our Premier League status next year, there is likely to be an overhaul of the current squad and no-one's position in the squad is safe. While Tim Krul has been a long-term absentee, Rob Elliot has proved to be a more than adequate replacement - saving us on many occasions - but Karl Darlow has looked suspect in the few appearances he has made so far. With that in mind, the club's transfer committee appear to be looking elsewhere and have the Arsenal deputy in their sights. The Colombian has seen his game time severely limited since Petr Cech's arrival at the Emirates in the summer and he is thought to be considering his options. Whether he'd want to make the move up north remains to be seen, but the 27 year old's presence could help shore up a defence that has leaked 49 goals in the Premier League this season. Current manager Arsene Wenger holds him in high regard and it would be unclear whether he'd be willing to part with a player who he believes is highly underrated in England. If the shot stopper did arrive, Krul could become our first big-name departure in the summer, leaving behind the club in which he has progressed through the youth ranks.
