Newcastle Transfers: Pardew Turns Attention To Christian Benteke

Powerful Belgian on Newcastle's radar, and Villa would be "willing to talk."

It's a busy old time at Newcastle United in the transfer market. Today should see the finalisation of deals for Daryl Janmaat as well as the ‚8m capture of Monaco's young striker Emmanuel Riviere, and Mathieu Debuchy's temporarily halted move to Arsenal should go through on the back of the confirmation of his Dutch replacement's incoming deal, but the Magpies aren't done yet. Alan Pardew has made it patently clear that he wants two strikers to add to the limited options he currently has in crocked Papiss Cisse, and youngsters Ayoze Perez and Adam Campbell, and it seems he might be ready to turn his attention to a Premier League striker who has attracted significant interest in the past couple of seasons. Though he is currently injured, the Chronicle have suggested that Newcastle are interested in Aston Villa's Belgian striker Christian Benteke - following reports earlier this month that he was on the club's radar - and also that Villa would be willing to talk. The transfer fee would be the remaining point on interest for the powerful hitman, who has scored 29 goals in 60 appearances for the Midlands club since joining in 2012, but his loss of form last term and the injury that has wiped out his summer might mean a more sensible valuation than what he would have garnered last summer. If Newcastle can tie up a deal for Benteke, they will have brought in seven new players ahead of the new season, with Perez, Janmaat and Riviere joining Jack Colback, Siem De Jong and Remy Cabella at St. James', and Newcastle fans will have to count this as a strong summer of business, even with Debuchy on his way out of the club. What do you think of the possibility of signing Christian Benteke? Would you take the Belgian at Newcastle? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
