Newcastle United Remove St. James's Park Sign

Oconic St. James's Park black lettering from the Barrack Road entrance to the stadium was removed earlier today.

The iconic St. James's Park black lettering from the Barrack Road entrance to the stadium was removed earlier today (Thursday) by Newcastle United, likely to be replaced by offensive blue, red and white lettering of the 'Sports Direct Arena'. Owner Mike Ashley officially changed the name of the stadium to the 'Sports Direct Arena' back in November in order to further sell the stadium naming rights package for potential investors. They have since made sure the media at every turn refer to the ground as the Sports Direct Arena, much to the distaste of Geordies everywhere. Newcastle United's next home game is on Saturday 25th February when they welcome manager-less Wolves to the North East, though their opponents have made it known they do hope to appoint a successor to Mick McCarthy before that fixture. Meanwhile, in an injury update, it appears that The Magpies utility man Ryan Taylor's injury is not as bad as first feared and he should be available for selection for the game. The free kick specialist was substituted in the victory over Queens Park Rangers but is back in training. photo courtesy of nufc.com
