Newcastle United Transfer News: Raul Garcia in £6.5 Million Move?

Newcastle United and Everton are prepared to challenge Liverpool for the signature of Atletico Madrid midfielder Raul Garcia.

Newcastle United and Everton are prepared to challenge Liverpool for the signature of Atletico Madrid midfielder Raul Garcia, according to a report in The Daily Mirror. Last week Liverpool had been linked with a £6.5 million move for the 25-year-old central midfielder who impressed last season on loan at Osasuna, where he contributed 11 goals. He had fallen out of favour with his Atletico boss Diego Simeone which led to his loan move last summer and now he is willing to let the player go for a cut price move, five years after the club made £9 million for the Spanish under 21 international. After letting Alan Smith and Danny Guthrie leave Newcastle on free transfers this summer, Newcastle have so money to spend on a central midfielder to challenge first choice pair Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew had made a £4.5 million transfer bid for Ajax's Vurnon Anita that had been turned down by the Dutch club and with Newcastle's new policy not being to overspend on players, they may start looking elsewhere for other targets.
