Newcastle United take on Norwich City in the Premier League this afternoon at St. James’ Park. Kick-off time is at 3pm and the match won’t be screened live on UK television.
Here’s the team news ahead of the game…
In his pre-match press conference, Newcastle boss Alan Pardew confirmed that Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse will be his front two for today’s game. Ba was left out of Monday night’s game at Goodison Park but came on for the second half and scored two goals. Cisse meanwhile was reported to have an illness this week but has now recovered to start.
Also reinstated to the first team are likely to be Jonas Gutierrez, Yohan Cabaye who were all rested for Thursday night’s 0-0 Europa League draw at Maritimo. Hatem Ben Arfa was completed his European ban for that game and rejoins the squad.
Midfield enforcer Cheick Tiote could return after returning to training from a calf injury that has kept him on the sidelines since the opening day victory against Tottenham Hotspur. Captain Fabricio Coloccini could return to training on Monday but this game comes too soon to return from a hamstring injury that he picked up playing for Argentina.
Goalkeeper Tim Krul, Ryan Taylor and Danny Simpson remain sidelined.
For Chris Hughton’s first return to St. James’ Park since his sacking, his Norwich City side has no fresh injury concerns. Midfielder Elliott Bennett is back in training and could be available. Simon Lappin hopes to return next week after recovering from an ankle ligament injury.
Full-back Stephen Whittaker has begun running after his lengthy injury. Jacob Butterfield (knee) may be involved in Wednesday’s Capital One Cup game.
