England has never really been the first choice destination for German players, with few of Germany’s star players making the move across the pond since the start of the Premier League. And no matter what English fans might say, there is little incentive for German players to make the move to England, considering the immense quality of the German Bundesliga. It is generally one of the most closely contested leagues in Europe and all the clubs receive fantastic support from the passionate German fans – much as English teams do.
However, in recent times, things seem to be changing: following the summer transfers of Lukas Podolski and Marko Marin to Arsenal and Chelsea respectively, and the January transfer of Lewis Holtby to Tottenham, Germany’s best players now seem to see the Premier League as a viable option for the development of their careers.
Perhaps the fact that no German team has won the Champions League since Bayern Munich won it way back in 2001 is playing on the minds of players hoping to achieve European success.
Here’s a list of 5 German players who could make the switch from the Bundesliga to the Premier League this Summer.
