The Dutch Eredivisie has often served as one of Europe’s primary feeder leagues so it comes as no surprise that a number of Premier League clubs have chosen to do their 2012 Summer shopping in Holland. Brendan Rodgers, Andre Villas Boas and Alex Ferguson among others will be hoping that their most recent imports are a lot more Ruud van Nistelrooy than Afonso Alves.

Here are the five standouts that you should be looking out for this season:-

1. Oussama Assaidi – Heerenveen to Liverpool

If Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers’ Swansea tenure is anything to go by he can’t get enough of skilful wingers capable of ghosting past defenders, creating and scoring goals in the process. It shouldn’t come as any surprise then that he signed 24-year-old Moroccan international Oussama Assaidi from Heerenveen. Ten goals in 27 Eredivisie appearances last season contributed to him being one of the league’s most exciting performers in 2011-12. Assaidi’s toughest task might be getting into the side in the first place, but once he does the rumoured transfer fee – around 1/10 what the club paid for Stewart Downing – should look like an absolute bargain.
