So far this Premier League season, we have seen plenty of standout performances that really have come as a pleasant surprise to football fans. The likes of Swansea’s Michu and Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke are amongst the revelations who have taken the Premier league by storm since their arrival.
However, despite the new unearthed talents this season, there have also been a fair share of bitterly disappointing performances from players you wouldn’t expect based on their previous form. In the summer, these players were expected to light up the Premier League, however over the course of the season so far have not lived up to our high expectations or their high billing. This list will focus on the 15 biggest disappointments so far, which means there’s no place for the likes of Adam Johnson, Yaya Toure, Stephane Sessegnon, Park Ji-Sung, Charles N’Zogbia, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Carlos Tevez, Ashley Young, or Darren Bent despite their relative disappointments so far this year.
So here are the unlikely 15 of this disappointing rogue’s gallery…
15. Clint Dempsey – Spurs
Tottenham agreed to pay £6million (about $9.5 million) for Dempsey’s services in the final hour of deadline day in the summer and this signing looked like one of the bargains of the year as far as Tottenham were concerned. Dempsey had an outstanding 2011/12 season with Fulham, scoring 21 goals in all competitions for the club and he was voted as Fulhams Player Of The Year by the fans.
However, at White Hart Lane this season, things couldn’t be more different for the U.S.A international. No longer the talisman he was at Fulham, Dempsey has only played 18 games for Spurs this year and his performances in a Tottenham shirt have not lived up to the expectations that he built up last year. He recurrently seems to give the ball away in the middle of park far too cheaply, and his flair and spark that were a real feature of his football last season, are now nowhere to be found. It appears as though these attributes have been replaced by a degree of indecisiveness and sloppiness which he has gained since his move across London.

Can’t say I disagree with this list.
Dempsey has been excellent for Spurs lately, however, and I would say Adebayor deserves a place in this last over the American.
Can’t agree with the Dempsey choice. Sure he had a difficult time at the start of his Spurs career, but he’s scored two CRUCIAL goals vs. Manchester United and has started hitting a comfortable form in the past couple of games with performances having gotten better over the past 2 months.
Including Kagawa is absolutely not fair. He has just returned from a long lay-off from injury. While his performances have not been amazing, they have certainly been encouraging.

Both Podolski and Giroud have 11 goals and 9 assists this season, stat attack! And to be fair Sigurdsson has hardly been played.
